The Heir

Readers generally found The Heir (The Selection, #4) to be an engaging but uneven continuation, with several appreciating the chance to return to its familiar world from a new perspective. The book was often described as easy to read and addictive, though some felt it relied too heavily on the formula of the earlier installments and was less exciting overall.

The strongest criticism focused on Eadlyn, whose spoiled, self-centered, and dismissive behavior irritated many readers, especially early on; others gradually warmed to her as she became more sympathetic. Readers also praised the returning characters, affectionate family moments, and memorable supporting figures, while some found the large cast and many names confusing and the pacing slow before the story gained momentum. It will likely appeal most to fans of the series who enjoy romantic competition, palace intrigue, and familiar characters, provided they are comfortable with a protagonist who divides opinion.
