Jane Eyre is alone in the world. Disliked by her aunt's family, she is sent away to school. Here she learns that a young girl, with neither money nor family to support her, can expect little from the world. She survives, but she wants more from life than simply to survive: she wants respect, and love. When she goes to work for Mr Rochester, she hopes she has found both at once. But the sound of strange laughter, late at night, behind a locked door, warns her that her troubles are only beginning. (Word count 31,360)

Olvasói vélemények összefoglalója

Readers broadly regard Jane Eyre as a deeply moving and memorable classic, praising its ability to remain engaging while offering emotional and moral depth. Many were especially drawn to Jane herself, finding her kind, principled, independent, and quietly strong.

The novel’s blend of romance, sensitivity, friendship, and Gothic atmosphere appealed to many readers, while its portrayal of self-respect and personal autonomy felt strikingly relevant. The writing was often described as beautiful and accessible, though some readers noticed its older style, lengthy dialogue, and extensive descriptions.

Opinions were more divided on the development of Jane’s relationship with Rochester, and some found the male characters eccentric or less appealing. Readers seeking a character-driven classic with emotional intensity, a strong female protagonist, and a touch of mystery are likely to appreciate Jane Eyre.
